The evening, hour by hour
Vans run from 14:00 to 15:15, again depending on your area, and again included. You board at Petcharat Marina at four, the crew run through the briefing, and the boat is off the dock while the light is still hard and white.
The first hour is the cruise. Beanbags on the roof deck, sundowner snacks, something cold, and the day beginning to soften. Nobody is in a hurry and nothing is scheduled.
Around half past five we ease to a stop in the calm open water off Lipa Noi, on the island's west side, with the Ang Thong archipelago sitting out on the horizon. This is the swim stop, and it is the reason this trip is on the west coast — the water is flat, the light is coming straight down the channel at you, and you can float in it while it happens.
Chef's light evening bites come out on deck as the colour goes, and then a smooth run home with the lights of Samui coming up ahead. Back around half past seven.
Why the west side, and why a wooden boat
Koh Samui's sunset happens over the water on the west coast, which is why the sunset cruise runs from Lipa Noi rather than the busier north or east. Ang Thong Marine Park breaks the horizon out there and gives the sky something to sit behind.
A traditional Thai teak cruiser is a slow boat, and a slow boat is the right instrument for this. There is no rushing to a viewpoint before the light goes; you are simply already in it. The roof deck is flat and built for lying on, and the hull is heavy enough that the swim stop is genuinely calm.

Sundowner snacks and chilled drinks from the moment you board, then chef's light evening bites on deck at sunset. This is a cruise with proper food, not a dinner cruise — if you are planning dinner afterwards, you will still want it.
Snorkelling gear and lifejackets are provided, there is live music or a curated playlist depending on the night, and the crew are the same people who run the day trips. Bring a light jacket: once the sun is down, the breeze off the water has an opinion.
