What the morning actually looks like
The van collects you from your hotel between 07:00 and 08:15 — the exact window depends on where on the island you are staying, and we confirm it with you the day before. It is included, island-wide, and there is nothing to arrange.
You board at Petcharat Marina in Maenam at nine, and someone puts a cold coconut in your hand before you have found your seat. The safety briefing is short and genuinely useful. Then the lines come off and the island starts to move past on the left.
The first stretch is the Big Buddha coast — Koh Faan, the temple on its little island, the headlands north of Bophut. This is the part people photograph. It is also the part where the boat settles into its rhythm and everyone stops checking their phone.
By late morning we are anchored off Silver Beach. Snorkelling gear comes out for everyone. There are double floating beanbags for the people who would rather lie on the water than swim in it, and the dinghy runs anyone who wants it ashore. Children between four and eleven get a supervised snorkelling session with the crew — patient, unhurried, in shallow water.
Lunch is served on board: one of twelve dishes you chose when you booked, with seasonal fruit alongside. Soft drinks are included throughout; beer and piña coladas are available to buy. Then there is more swimming, or more lying down, depending on temperament — and we are back alongside at the marina by two in the afternoon.
The boat
She is a traditional Thai teak cruiser — handcrafted wood, a proper cabin, a flat roof deck built for lying on. Not a speedboat. Speedboats are how most of Koh Samui's day tours are run, and they are the single most common complaint in this island's reviews: crowded, loud, hard on the spine, and over before you have settled.
This boat carries a maximum of fifteen guests. She moves at the speed a wooden hull moves at, which is the entire point. You will spend the day sitting down, in shade when you want it, with room to put your things.
Lunch — twelve dishes, chosen before you sail
Lunch is included and it is not an afterthought. The menu is prepared by Meal Prep, an island kitchen we work with, and runs to twelve dishes lettered A to L — five wraps and seven bowls, from a salmon and egg wrap to sesame-crusted salmon, tandoori chicken and a lo-cal pad Thai.
You pick your dish when you book, by letter. Orders go to the kitchen by 4pm the day before, which is how a boat with no galley serves fifteen people a hot lunch they actually wanted. Tell us about allergies in the notes and we will handle it.
Who it suits
Families — the minimum age is four, children between four and eleven pay a reduced fare, and the supervised snorkelling means parents get an hour that is genuinely theirs. Couples, for the same reason everyone else likes it: fifteen people is a small number.
It suits anyone who has read about Koh Samui's speedboat tours and thought, not that. It does not suit anyone looking for a party boat. That is not what this is, and we would rather say so now.
